My work embodies the philosophy of empowerment—a way to move through trauma without moving into “overwhelm”. Trauma is not an unusual or abnormal situation. It is a response to an overwhelming event and it happens everyday—accidents, deep loss, surgeries, divorce, high stress, abuse. In response, our bodies mobilize a tremendous amount of energy in order to fight or flee.
The fight or flight response is a complex interweaving of emotional and biological energies programmed into our bodies. If we are unable to fight or flee, the amassed energy becomes bound in our bodies- -immobilized in the central nervous system. Trapped, the bound energy begins to create symptoms. These symptoms are often felt as a charge or over-activation, and may manifest as out-of-control feelings, anxiety or panic attacks, and /or physical issues such as migraines, body tensions or stomach/ digestive problems. The desired result in the healing of trauma is the resolution of the fight or flight response and the release of these energies.
I combine several therapies that accomplish this goal. By integrating Somatic Experiencing, Craniosacral Therapy, and Body-centered Psychotherapy, a body/mind synthesis is created for the healing of trauma. Each of these therapies contacts the patterns of held energy in the body and provides an avenue of release.
This holistic approach brings:
